Dimitri A. Sotiropoulos, Professor, University of Athens.

Dimitri A. Sotiropoulos studied Law at AthensUniversity(LLB, 1984), and Sociology at the LSE (MSc) and at YaleUniversity(MA 1987, MPhil 1988, PhD, 1991). He has taught at the Universityof Creteand at the Institute Juan March, Madrid. He was Senior Research Fellow of the Hellenic Observatory at the LSE (2003), and Visiting Fellow, Southeast European Studies (SEESOX) at the European Studies Centre of St. Antony’s College, Oxford(2009-10). He has been coordinating editor of the Greek Review of Political Science (2000-04). He has published articles in various academic journals, and has written or co-edited nine books. His research interests lie in the comparative study of new democracies, public bureaucracies, welfare states and civil societies inS outhern Europe and the Balkans. He has been teaching on the Postgraduate Programme for most of the past eighteen years, and has been a member of its Coordinating Committee from the start and is its current director.
